Autoimmunity, T cells, Tregs, tolerance, therapy

My research focuses on autoimmunity and immune tolerance, with the goal of developing therapies that restore immune homeostasis and ultimately cure autoimmune diseases.
I conduct translational and preclinical research at the interface of immunology and therapeutic development. My work aims to understand the mechanisms driving loss of tolerance and to design targeted strategies that selectively suppress pathogenic immune responses while preserving normal immune function. In particular, I develop antigen-specific immunotherapies, including engineered immune cell approaches, to re-establish durable immune tolerance.
Using preclinical models, I evaluate the efficacy, specificity, and safety of these approaches, with a strong focus on clinical translatability. Overall, my research seeks to move beyond symptom management toward therapies that address the root cause of autoimmune disease.

I design and run preclinical studies in rodent models, including humanized mice, to evaluate immunotherapies. This includes surgical procedures, longitudinal monitoring, and assessment of disease and treatment response. I conduct proof-of-concept and efficacy studies, as well as PK/PD and biodistribution analyses to characterise exposure and activity. I use in vitro cell assays to study immune mechanisms. My technical expertise includes flow cytometry, microscopy, and spatial transcriptomics for tissue-level analysis. With industry experience, I conduct studies within a regulated framework supporting pharmaceutical and translational development.

I work mainly on autoimmune disease models such as inflammatory bowel diseases, rheumatoid arthritis, psoriasis, type 1 diabetes, transplantation models, etc. Including humanized mouse models. In particular, I have characterised the only known AIRE-deficient rat model, which uniquely develops clinical features closely resembling patients with APECED syndrome.
