Malaria, Parasitology, Drug Discovery

Focused on identifying novel antimalarial therapeutics to combat the rise in parasite mediated drug resistance. Completed a PhD focused on identifying nutrient pathways in the causative agent of malaria, as potential therapeutic targets. Publications outlining novel methodologies for the investigation of nutrient channels and the characterisation of essential proteins utilising genetic engineering techniques in both human and rodent species of malaria. Working within the Creek laboratory at Monash Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (MIPS) to understand the malaria parasite microbiology and cell biology in order to identify potent antimalarial drugs and their mechanisms of action. Additionally, applying systems biology techniques including proteomics and metabolomics to better understand the complex biology of parasites, drug dynamics and drug target deconvolution.
