Mr Harry Stannard
WHO Collaborating Centre for Reference and Research on Influenza, at the Peter Doherty Institute for Infection and Immunity
Research ActivitiesOur team at the WHO CCRRI (VIDRL, Peter Doherty Institute, Melbourne) performs research on influenza virus antivirals. My work utilises the ferret influenza challenge model to study novel antiviral resistant viruses, and potential antiviral drugs/drug combinations, ultimately to research the most effective antiviral treatment methods of human influenza.
Techniques/ExpertiseCell culture assays, primary tissue isolation and culture, virus propagation, plaque assay, virus titration, microscopy, flow-cytometry, qPCR, NGS (Illumina -iSeq), pyrosequencing. Ferret model - handling, inoculation, nasal lavage, tissue harvesting.
Disease ModelsIn vitro - immortalised cells, air-liquid interfaces, human tissue cultures
In vivo - mice and ferret models
